Introduction

merennbunnlinje.linkutvikling.no

This initiative is a voluntary project developed by a committed group of people with a strong wish to move the business community to action. The portal is built for those who want professional insight while supporting an important humanitarian cause. Every donation goes in full to the work of Doctors Without Borders in war-torn areas, so they can keep giving fast and effective medical help to those who need it most.

I want to thank Hana Colakovic and Fredrik Fornes, who with valuable help from Michelle Sæther are behind this initiative. Their contribution to our life-saving work shows a humanity and a commitment they should be proud of. On behalf of our employees and patients, I want to say thank you for caring. Together we save lives.

Mari Kaupang, Head of corporate partnerships, Doctors Without Borders

Features

The solution

Registration and login

To get access to the portal you have to register a user, done in three steps so we can easily see where the user is in the process and place them back if they stop along the way. The first step is email and password to authenticate the user. The next step is information about the user, where you define whether you represent a private individual or a company, or whether you want to stay anonymous in the portal. The final step is the donation, where you have to give an amount of your choice above 250 NOK. The payment goes through Stripe. Once we have confirmation that the payment has gone through, the user can continue into the portal.

Users can log back in to the portal with email and password.

The solution

Videos

The main page of the portal consists of videos from both Doctors Without Borders and recognised speakers in Norway. You can click into them to watch the videos and read more about the speakers and the content. You also find a list of other videos in the portal for quick access.

The solution

Donations

The portal contains a page showing all donations along with a total sum. The list is sorted by the size of the donations, with the largest at the top. Donations are marked as Private, Company or Anonymous. If the user is private or a company, their name is shown here as well.

If they want to, users can also donate more from this page. Users can donate as many times as they like, and the amounts are added to the total for that person or company in the donation list.

The solution

Information

The portal contains several information pages: a dedicated information page inside the portal, a landing page when you open it, and a page for the privacy policy and terms of use.

Technology

Technology

The client side is built in Vue with TypeScript. The backend consists of database, image storage and authentication via Firebase (Firestore, Authentication and Storage), plus a Node server to handle payments. The portal integrates with Stripe for donations. The videos are stored and hosted at Vimeo.

The solution

The initiative

This fundraiser was initiated by Hana Colakovic and Fredrik Fornes, with valuable help from Michelle Sæther on developing the platform. The initiators wanted to engage the business community more strongly around the ongoing conflicts and the daily violations of human rights taking place only a few thousand kilometres away from us.

The goal of building the portal is to inspire action by giving something useful back to those who support. This initiative is not politically motivated, but a concrete measure to promote human rights and deliver emergency aid where it is needed most.
